This week, an executive search candidate told me that he manages his teams based on impact: โ€œThe measure of everything my employees do should be whether it has impact. Otherwise, they better leave itโ€. This always encourages his employees to think bigger and not get bogged down in thiss and thats. Inspiring isn’t it, such a clear and meaningful benchmark?

In this strained job market, we find that candidates of every experience level are looking for work with meaning. What impact can I have is one of the most important criteria when choosing a new job or assignment. In this regard, not only NGOs and innovative start-ups are attractive. Especially the companies that are on their way from A to Better – in terms of happier staff and customers, healthy and sustainable products and production methods – are also interesting, because there is a lot to improve. Then again, that mission must be at the top of the priority list and translated into everything. Right down to holding employees accountable for the impact they make. Because that is exactly what they themselves want to spend their valuable time on.
