Recruiting = marketing

It is the large Internet companies that have the best recruitment and selection methods to attract the most talented employees. Annet Aris (lecturer in digital strategy at Insead and commissioner at several companies) wrote about this in the FD on June 4, 2016. In doing so, she describes how at Insead, traditional companies often lose out on recruiting the most talented students.

The normal hiring practice at traditional companies is generally: there is a gap, we describe the position and the minimum requirements the candidate must meet, advertise it and wait to see who comes to it.

In contrast, the Internet companies mentioned excel in a proactive, data-driven approach. By analyzing which people are successful in their business, they know exactly what traits they are looking for. They know which traits are crucial and how to measure them (online). This allows them to select faster, before other interested parties come forward, and win over top talent with a relevant offer.

In my opinion, these companies take a modern marketing approach to recruiting candidates. They analyze very precisely who their target group is and what their needs are based on available data. They base their strategy on this to bring in the best candidates quickly and in a focused way, before the competition can even come close, with a customized offer.

WerfSelect’s approach to finding the best-suited candidates for clients is also based on this. The most important step in this process is to talk to each other about what needs to be done. Who within the company has excelled at this before? What does this say about the profile of the person we are looking for? From this follow the requirements regarding the personality and experience of the future employee. Who is this person and where can we find and reach them? This is where we start working concretely and very specifically. In order to interest the target group and entice them to come and talk to us. Marketing, in other words.

I could have done worse as an office dog, because there is a park and forest near the monastery. During the lunch walk I coach the team based on my motto “from relaxation the best results are achieved. And afterwards I lounge under the conference table again.
